I had the honor of working alongside artist Jan Tichy to produce Artes in Horto - Seven Gardens for Chicago. The piece was produced for the inaugural launch of Art on theMART, which is a large scale projection on the façade of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, a wall spanning 2.5 acres. Artes in Horto - Seven Gardens for Chicag was commissioned by the Terra Foundation for American Art as part of Art Design Chicago, and exhibited for several months in the fall of 2018. I was responsible for producing the animations using various styles and techniques in After Effects.
The work has seven movements, all focusing on Chicago artists who considered nature to be significant in the development of their practices. Each section appears in chronological order as the artists’ original creations blossom and grow into gardens in full bloom above the Chicago River. I used the chosen artists’ own techniques and stylistic preferences as reference for how the gardens should come to life. Below, you can see the piece in its entirety before it was projected onto the building.
